Lose it!

“Looking after my health today gives me a better hope for tomorrow.”
                                ~Anne Wilson Schaef

One of the things I started to do is keep track of the food I eat.   I have selected an app called Lose it!, to keep my daily record. Using Lose it! has helped me to track my meals, calories, water, exercises, and more in the past few weeks.

The app is free with an option to upgrade to a premium level to track the nutrition value of your meals and to count carbs.  I like that the app allows me to connect with friends and create challenges to motivate each other.  I also love the charts and the insights I get from the data produced by my entries. Great motivator for an analytical person like me!   https://www.loseit.com/premium/

According to a study conducted by Kaiser Permanente, “‘[t]hose who kept daily food records lost twice as much weight as those who kept no records. It seems that the simple act of writing down what you eat encourages people to consume fewer calories’” (2008).   That is a great benefit from a simple action.

Realization & Acceptance

It is surreal for me, I am turning 50 in about nine months! This day is approaching faster than I anticipated.

During my internal process of this realization, a question keeps pounding in my mind.  What experiences do I want to gain from my next decade?  Thinking in faith that I will live another decade since tomorrow is not promised.  That’s when it came to my mind and heart, to lose at least 50 pounds by my 50th birthday.

The image above spoke deeply to me.  I did not gain all this extra weight overnight!  I need to be patient with myself.  I have come to accept that with time I can lose the extra weight in a healthy way to keep it off.   In this journey, I have now my son Jonathan’s full support because he is taking on this journey too.  He has made a decision to lose 30 for 30 by April 30th.  I challenge you to join me in either making your own healthy decision for you by your next birthday or by sharing encouraging words of wisdom.   I look forward to connecting with you.
